Congratulations to Michael Laffan (class of 1963) whose Biography entitled "JUDGING W T COSGRAVE" has just published and is now in the shops.

W T Cosgrave has been hugely neglected by scholars and this work examines his life, role and contribution as a state builder and a key figure in the Irish Democratic tradition.

It is available obviously in all good book shops and hopefully on Kindle shortly.

Michael Laffan studied for ten years in Gonzaga (from 1953 to 1963) and then in UCD, Trinity Hall Cambridge, and the Institute for European History in Mainz. He lectured briefly at the University of East Anglia before taking up what proved to be a long-term post in UCD. He taught there for over three decades, served in various positions, including that of head of the School of History and Archives, and retired in 2010. He is now professor emeritus. He has lectured widely in Ireland and across the globe. From 2010-12 he was president of the Irish Historical Society.

He has published extensively on Modern Irish History. His writings include The Partition of Ireland, 1911-1925 (Dublin, 1983) and The Resurrection of Ireland: the Sinn Féin Party, 1916-1923 (Cambridge, 1999). He has also edited The Burden of German History, 1919-1945 (London,1988).
