Noughties Soccer League – UCD All Weather Pitches

Despite the miserable weather, there was a strong turnout for the
soccer tournament this year. The group stages lasted about 2 hours
with Matt Healy's team (2007), Stephen Kane's team (2008), the 6th
year team and Gavin Kane's(2006) team coming out as the winners. The
teachers managed to avoid the wooden spoon by grinding out a win
against one of the 2008 teams who struggled with the football for most
of the afternoon! The teachers more physical approach gave them the
edge although it did result in Pelly taking one to in the nads. Other
non memorable displays came from Finn Gleeson's (2006) team, who was
kitted out in a cotton tracksuit for the day, so movements were
limited and not even a cameo appearance from the technical wizard
James Gethings could save the day. The 2005 teams failed to make it
out of the groups either but played favoured a more physical style
through Keith and Jam which picked them up a few wins.
Matt Healy's team played the 6th years in the semi final and
came out comfortable winners with O'Cofaigh picking up a fair amount
of goals. The Kane brothers took each other on in the other semi which
was a much more close affair. It went down to penalties but Gavo
bottled it for the 2006 team, which put Steve Kane's team through to
the final. The final turned into a bit of an exhibition match for
Sparky's 2007 team as they ran riot. The player of the tournament went
to Matt Healy while Pelly picked up a prize for the loudest scream
after his incident i mentioned above. Most people then headed to
Madigans later on that eve for a few drinks and some food. All in all
the day was a success particularly for madigans who would have had 2
customers if it weren't for us!
