A Memorable Day

Sunday 4th October will be a memorable day ....

Sunday October 4th will be a memorable and proud day in the history of Gonzaga College.  The official opening and blessing of the school took place in the sports hall shared by some 800 parents and guests.

Headmaster Kevin Whirdy spoke with affection about the wonderful new buildings and how they would enhance the education of the students.  He thanked everyone who made it possible, parents, past pupils, staff, students, builders, architects, surveyors.  He especially thanked those whose vision and determination never faltered to bring us to where we are today. He asked us to remember those who had worked on the project but would now be losing their jobs; they too had a part to play.  Fr. John Dardis SJ who is the current head of the Jesuits in Ireland unveiled the plaque and blessed the building.

Filled with light and life, the new buildings merged in with the old in a way that it was impossible to see where one started and the other ended.   I am sure there was not one person there who did not wish they could step back in time and could walk the corridors to their classroom, if even just for a minute!
